NPP takes strong early lead in Parliament polls

The National People’s Power (NPP) secured a strong, early lead in the 2024 Parliament Elections securing over 66 % of the votes released so far, Friday.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has so far managed just 16.77 % of the votes and the New Democratic Front (NDF) coming third with just around 5 % of the votes released so far.

The NPP has obtained 2,245,147 votes so far while the SJB has obtained 573,157 votes and the NDF 177,995 votes.

The NPP has so far won the polls in the Galle, Hambantota and Pollonaruwa Districts, securing 16 seats while the SJB has 3 seats in Parliament so far and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna 2 seats. (Colombo Gazette)

High-level Chinese delegation will not be quarantined in Sri Lanka

The high-level Chinese delegation which arrived in Sri Lanka today will not be quarantined, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi. Under normal circumstances all those arriving in Sri Lanka must quarantine for 14 days.
