Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has raised fears of an attempt to assassinate her after her security was reduced by the current Government.
In a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, retired DIG Ravi Seneviratne, Kumaratunga said there could be a plot to assassinate her like her husband was killed in 1988.
Vijaya Kumaratunga, Sri Lankan politician and founder of the Sri Lanka Mahajana Pakshaya, was assassinated by an assassin of the militant organization Deshapremi Janatha Viyaparaya (DJV) on February 16, 1988, while attempting to leave his home in Polhengoda in Colombo.
The former President said that while Mahinda Rajapaksa has been provided with 243 security personnel, Maithripala Sirisena 109 and Gotabaya Rajapaksa 200 security officers, her security has been reduced from 50 to 30. (Colombo Gazette)
