Sri Lanka assured the highest-levels of safety for all visitors and urged them to visit the country during the upcoming tourist season.?
Issuing a statement, Sri Lanka Tourism extended a warm invitation to travelers from around the world to visit the country during the upcoming tourist season.
“We ensure that all tourists can enjoy a safe and secure experience while exploring the beauty of our island. The highest levels of safety and security will be maintained for all visitors throughout their stay in Sri Lanka,” Sri Lanka Tourism said.
Sri Lanka Tourism said that the Ministry of Defense has also assured Sri Lanka Tourism that necessary measures have been taken to guarantee the safety of tourists across all areas of the country, ensuring peace of mind for those currently staying in Sri Lanka and for those planning their visits.
Sri Lanka Tourism said it looks forward to offering every traveler a memorable and enjoyable stay in Sri Lanka.
The assurance came after a number of countries issued travel advisories on Sri Lanka.
The US Embassy in Colombo said that it received credible information warning of an attack targeting popular tourist locations in the Arugam Bay area.
Due to the serious risk posed by this threat, the Embassy imposed a travel restriction on Embassy personnel for Arugam Bay effective immediately and until further notice.
The Embassy said that US citizens have been strongly urged to avoid the Arugam Bay area until further notice.
Australia and the UK also urged its citizens in these areas to take precautions.
Israel?s National Security Council later advised its citizens in parts of ?Sri Lanka, including Arugam Bay, Galle, Hikkaduwa and Weligama, to leave immediately citing terrorism threats.? (Colombo Gazette)
