Shani Abeysekera appointed Director of Crimes of Sri Lanka Police

Shani Abeysekera, the former Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), who was removed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has been appointed as the Director of Crimes of the Sri Lanka Police.

According to reports, the National Police Commission and the Election Commission have approved SSP Abeysekera’s appointment.

The new Government led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has decided to investigate several crimes which were suspended by past Governments.

Abeysekera was involved in investigating some of the high-profile murders before he was removed by the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration. (Colombo Gazette)
