Manusha assures crackdown on foreign employment racketeers

Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara today assured Parliament that steps are being taken to crackdown on foreign employment racketeers. He said that a number of people have been travelling to the Middle East on visit visas with the intention of seeking employment illegally. The Minister said that information had come to light of women travelling to Oman through Dubai and being sold in Oman. He said that a committee has been appointed to crackdown on foreign employment

Navy arrests 14 Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan waters

The Navy arrested 14 Indian fishermen who were found to be poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Jaffna. The Sri Lanka Navy seized the Indian trawler with 14 Indian fishermen off Mamunei in Veththalakerni, Jaffna. The Navy has stepped up its patrols and operations in Sri Lanka?s waters to curb illegal fishing practices of foreign fishing trawlers. Two suspects shot dead by STF in Minuwangoda

Two suspects were shot dead by the Police Special Task Force (STF) in Minuwangoda. The Police claimed that the suspects were killed during an exchange of fire between the STF and the two individuals. According to the Police, the two suspects are accomplices of underworld figure ?Uragaha Indika?. The Police said that an STF officer was also injured in the incident. (Colombo Gazette)
