Gates Foundation offers support to digitalise agriculture sector in Sri Lanka

The Bill & Melinda Gates?Foundation has offered support to digitalise the agriculture sector in Sri Lanka.

Chanditha Samaranayake, Independent Consultant of the Gates Foundation met with the Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat and engaged in a discussion.

The discussion centered on the progress of the digital agricultural transformation program aimed at supporting smallholder farmers and the school meal program to address Sri Lanka?s malnutrition crisis.

Further collaborations on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), livestock, and climate-related initiatives were also explored.

The Gates Foundation?s leadership expressed their expectations to meet with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake soon to formalize the partnership between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Foundation. (Colombo Gazette)

Army Major among 3 killed in Galgamuwa accident

An Army Major was among three people killed in an accident in Galgamuwa, the Police said today. The Police said that the vehicle had crashed into a wall and a tree at Ihalagama in Galgamuwa. Manusha assures crackdown on foreign employment racketeers

Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara today assured Parliament that steps are being taken to crackdown on foreign employment racketeers. He said that a number of people have been travelling to the Middle East on visit visas with the intention of seeking employment illegally. The Minister said that information had come to light of women travelling to Oman through Dubai and being sold in Oman. He said that a committee has been appointed to crackdown on foreign employment

Overseas travel ban on Diana Gamage extended

The overseas travel ban imposed on State Minister Diana Gamage has been extended until 15th December. The Colombo Magistrate?s Court had imposed an overseas travel ban on State Minister of Tourism, Diana Gamage. The ban prevented the State Minister from travelling overseas until today (17th November). However, the ban has now been extended until 15th December. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating Gamage?s passport, birth certificate and National Identity Card (NIC).
