Curfew declared in Sri Lanka extended

A curfew declared in Sri Lanka has been extended until Sunday afternoon, the Sri Lanka Government said.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe had declared a curfew across?Sri Lanka?from Saturday night until Sunday morning.

The curfew was declared from 10.00 p.m. on Saturday to 06.00 a.m. on Sunday (22).

However, the Government said the curfew has been extended until 12 noon on Sunday.

Issuing a gazette notice on Saturday the President said that he considered it necessary to maintain public order across the island.

By virtue of the powers vested in him under Section 16 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40) the President ordered that no person shall be on any public road, railway, public park, public recreation ground or other public ground or the seashore in such areas, from 22.00 hour of September 21st 2024 to 06.00 hour of September 22nd 2024, except under the authority of a written permit granted by Secretary, Ministry of Defence or Secretary, Ministry of Public Security or any officer authorized by them. Ruhuna University closed following clash

AG instructs Acting IGP to locate witnesses in Trinco 5 case

Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera has instructed Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne to try and locate the witnesses in the Trinco 5 case.
