Anura Kumara Dissanayake gets early lead as first result is released

National People’s Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has got an early lead in the 2024 Presidential Election as the first result was released.

Dissanayake secured 19,185 postal votes in the Ratnapura District while Ranil Wickremesinghe secured 6,641 votes and Sajith Premadasa got 4,675 votes.

Over 70% voter turnout was recorded in most Districts at the close of the polls during the 2024 Presidential Election in Sri Lanka.

Voting to elect the country?s next President took place from 7am to 4pm, Saturday.

The election was largely peaceful with a few incidents reported, according to Election monitors.

The Nuwara Eliya and Gampaha Districts recorded 80% voter turnout, the highest among the Districts in the country. (Colombo Gazette)
