Ranil snubs Anura’s invite for one-on-one debate

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has snubbed an invitation extended by National People’s Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake for a one-on-one debate.
Instead, the President says Dissanayake, Sunil Handunnetti, and Harshana Suriyapperuma must have a debate an clarify whether their economic policy is geared towards an export economy or an import economy.
Dissanayake had challenged President Ranil Wickremesinghe for a one-on-one debate instead of trading allegations against each other on stage.
Dissanayake said he is prepared to face any questions Wickremesinghe has and he also has some questions to ask the President.
Among the questions Dissanayake said he wants to ask the President is if he lied when he once said the Rajapaksas are crooks.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that Anura Kumara Dissanayake had avoided answering his question about whether the NPP’s economic policy is export- or import-oriented.
The President also mentioned that, as previously discussed, a time could be set for a video discussion with Anura, himself, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe made these remarks during a meeting held with intellectuals and business leaders from the Kurunegala District at the Asliya Golden Cassandra Hotel in Kurunegala. (Colombo Gazette)
