Paranawithana’s name gazetted to replace Thalatha in Parliament

Karunarathna Paranawithanage’s name has been gazetted as a Member of Parliament to replace former Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Thalatha Athukorala.

The Election Commission has gazetted the name of Karunarathna Paranawithanage, better know as Karu Paranawithana, as next in line from the Ratnapura District.

The Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera informed the Chairman of the Election Commission in writing that Member of Parliament representing the Ratnapura Constituency Thalatha Athukoralahas tendered her letter of resignation as a Member of Parliament with effect from the 21^st?if August 2024 and thus a vacancy has been created following the resignation.

Athukorala made a shocking resignation from Parliament recently after making a lengthy speech where she expressed disappointment at the decision taken by United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and former UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa to run for President.

She accused the two leaders of being selfish instead of thinking of the future of the country.

Athukorala said she was disappointed that the UNP split into two and that no attempt was made to unite the two factions. (Colombo?Gazette)

Registration of foreign companies to resume

The suspension on registration of foreign companies in Sri Lanka will be reversed from tomorrow(11). The Registrar of Companies last month temporarily suspended the Incorporation of foreign owned companies in the country until further notice. Youth who used social media to abuse kids arrested

A local youth who had used social media to abuse children has been arrested, the Police media unit said. The Police said that the 21-year-old had used Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Instagram to lure school boys and other children by publishing fake images.
