Complaint filed against Paffrel over Presidential debate

A complaint has been filed against the People?s Action for Free and Fair Elections (Paffrel) over the proposed Presidential debate involving 6 of the 39 candidates.

Presidential candidate Janaka Ratnayake said that he had filed a complaint with the Election Commission over the proposed debate.

He said the Election Commission has been asked to cancel the proposed debate as it gives unfair publicity to the six candidates.

Paffrel has invited Presidential candidates Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sajith Premadasa, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Namal Rajapaksa, Dilith Jayaweera and P. Ariyanethran for the debate.

Ratnayake questioned on what basis only the 6 candidates were picked.

Meanwhile, Presidential candidate Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that he was also going to file a complaint against the proposed debate. (Colombo Gazette)

Tense situation in Jaffna over girl’s murder

A tense situation developed in Jaffna today over the murder and alleged rape of a school girl, the police said. The police said that tear-gas had to be used as a violent protest was staged outside the Jaffna Court over the murder.
