SLPP MPs backing Ranil to form their own political party

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs who have decided to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe, are to form their own political party.

SLPP MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that the MPs would establish a new political party next week and arrangements are already in progress.

He said this during a meeting with former Local Government heads in Kandy attended by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

MPs Prasanna Ranatunga, Lohan Ratwatte, Anuradha Jayaratne, and Janaka Wakkambura and former MP Manusha Nanayakkara were also in attendance.

Over 90 MPs from the SLPP have decided to back Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential election despite the party nominating MP Namal Rajapaksa as its presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, at the meeting in Kandy, President Ranil Wickremesinghe pledged to secure the political future of former provincial council and local government representatives who are rallying behind him in the upcoming presidential election.

The former local government heads expressed their appreciation for the President’s economic recovery initiatives and assured their commitment to ensuring his victory at the upcoming election. (Colombo Gazette)

Reopening of schools postponed till after polls

Number of coronavirus patients at Kandakadu rises to 550

The number of coronavirus patients at the Kandakadu treatment and rehabilitation center rose to 550 today. Nearly 35 Police officers in Homagama placed under quarantine

Nearly 35 Police officers from the Nugegoda Division 04 Police Department in Homagama have been placed in quarantine.
