Egypt and Sri Lanka discuss combating extremism and radicalization

Egypt and Sri Lanka discussed matters related to religious cooperation including combating extremism and radicalization.

Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, who is on an official visit to Egypt, met His Eminence Dr. Shawky Ibrahim Allam, Grand Mufti of Egypt at his office.

While acknowledging the good relations between the two countries, they had a fruitful discussion on matters related to religious cooperation, cultural exchanges and combating extremism and radicalization,

Sabry said they also discussed promoting peaceful coexistence and also enhancing closer people-to-people ties.

“Further, we agreed to explore avenues for cooperation between our two countries in those areas. I commended him on the leading role being played by Egypt and His Eminence globally in promoting the true essence of Islam, its inclusive nature, security and peace for all humanity,” he said.

After the meeting the Foreign Minister joined Dr. Shawky for the Jum?ah prayers at Muhammad Ali Mosque built in 1265 AH\ 1848 AD. (Colombo Gazette)

Another seven coronavirus related deaths reported in Sri Lanka

Another seven coronavirus related deaths were reported in Sri Lanka today. This took the death toll from the coronavirus in Sri Lanka to 137. The latest victims included two prisoners.
