Ranil says public will decide future of MPs supporting him

President Ranil Wickremesinghe says the public will decide the future of MPs supporting him, if they are corrupt or not, at the Parliament election.

He said that the Presidential election is to decide on him and not the MPs supporting him.

Wickremesinghe said anyone can vote for him, even if they are criminals.

The President said this when asked about the support he was getting from some MPs facing various allegations.

Speaking to media heads in Colombo, Wednesday, Wickremesinghe also said that he does not see a challenge from the other main candidates.

He said the other candidates contesting the upcoming election are focused on their own future while he is focusing on the future of the country.

The President also said that he is still grateful to the support given by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and MP Namal Rajapaksa during the past two years.

Wickremesinghe said that he has now put forward what he has done and can do for the country and is confident the public will support him.

The President noted that others had an opportunity to prove themselves yet they did not accept it.

“Have we got leaders who can resolve the problems of the country or will they run away or will they hide? The country has to decide, ” the President said.

The President also said that if he wins the election he will still look to work with other political parties. (Colombo Gazette)
