Dayasiri, Thilanga group in SLFP sign MoU with Sajith

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) group led by Dayasiri Jayasekera and Thilanga Sumathipala signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Premadasa said the MoU does not include portfolios or ministries to be allocated to anyone but looks at the best interest of the country.

He said the MoU with the SLFP is real system change.

Sumathipala said that they will look to fulfil the agreement and do what is best for the country.

The SLFP is currently split into 3 with one group backing Ranil Wickremesinghe, another backing former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and one group now backing Premadasa.

Jayasekera said that legally he is the only General Secretary of the SLFP.

He said that after the 21st September presidential election the SLFP will regroup at the party headquarters. (Colombo Gazette)

Cabinet approves proposal to increase bus fares

Cabinet has approved a proposal to increase bus fares from tomorrow. Accordingly, the minimum bus fare for private and state owned passenger buses has been increased by Rs. 3 from Rs. 17 to Rs. 20. Meanwhile, the fare of other categories has been increased by 15 percent. Bus fares have been increased as a result of the rise in the cost of fuel.
