Tamil parties to pick common candidate from two finalists

The Tamil political parties who decided to field a common candidate at the upcoming Presidential elections, will pick their nominee from 2 finalists.
Speaking to reporters in Jaffna today, the Tamil parties said that they hope to reach a final decision this week.
The Tamil political parties, including those led by C.V Wigneswaran and Selvam Adaikalanathan, signed an agreement in Jaffna, last month.
Tamil civil society groups also signed the memorandum of understanding.
The Tamil parries and Tamil civil society noted that past Presidents had not met the expectations of the Tamils despite obtaining their support.
As a result it has been decided to put forward a candidate who will address the issues faced by the Tamils.
Former MP Suresh Premachandran was also among those who signed the memorandum of understanding.
However, the main Tamil political party in Sri Lanka, the Illangai Thamil Arasu Katchi did not signed the agreement. (Colombo Gazette)
