Election Commission to announce date of Presidential polls

The Election Commission is to announce the date of the Presidential polls in Sri Lanka on Friday.

The Commission said that a gazette notice will be issued on Friday announcing the date of the election and dates when nominations will be accepted.

The election is expected to take place in October yet there are concerns attempts are being made by the Government to postpone the polls.

The main candidates at the election are expected to be incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and National Peoples Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Former Army Commander, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe have also announced they will be contesting. (Colombo Gazette)

Committee to probe deaths at National Hospital

A committee has been appointed to investigate the deaths of four individuals at the Colombo National Hospital, the Ministry of Health said today. The four patients had died after undergoing heart surgery at the hospital this week. Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has appointed a three member committee to investigate the deaths and submit a report today. Belgium Prince accused of having unauthorised meeting with Ranil

Prince Laurent of Belgium has been accused of meeting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe without following the proper procedures in his country. The?Belgium media reported that Prince Laurent had not informed the?Belgium Foreign Ministry about his meeting with the Prime Minister.
