MP Ali Sabri Raheem arrested

Puttalam District MP Ali Sabri Raheem was arrested by the Kalpitiya Police over a warrant issued against him.

The MP surrendered to the Kalpitiya Police and was subsequently arrested.

He was subsequently released on bail.

The warrant was issued after the MP failed to appear in court over a case filed against him.

In March, the MP was suspended from Parliament for a period of one month following an incident where he was detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with undeclared gold and mobile phones. (Colombo Gazette)

Two associates of underworld kingpin arrested

Two close associates of underworld kingpin ” Welle Saranga ” were arrested for the possession of heroin in the Lelama area in Mutwal. The Police said 1.320 grams of heroin were seized from one suspect and 1.400 grams from the other last afternoon. The suspects, aged 29 and 40, are residents of Mutwal. Hearing of writ petition by interdicted Negombo SP postponed

The Court of Appeal today postponed the supporting of the writ petition filed by interdicted Negombo prison Superintendent of Police (SP) Anurudha Sampayo. The hearing of the writ petition was postponed till 27 July when it was taken up for consideration today.
