Sirisena says SLFP will put forward its own candidate

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will put forward its own candidate at the upcoming Presidential Elections, SLFP Leader Maithripala Sirisena said.?

He said the party has already picked a candidate and will make a formal announcement soon.

Sirisena had resigned from the post of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in May and appointed Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as the new Chairman.

However, the SLFP faction led by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga had said that it does not recognize the appointments.

SLFP MP Duminda Dissanayake said that the appointments made by Sirisena was illegal.?(Colombo Gazette)

Over 130 Indians linked to online financial scam arrested in Sri Lanka

Over 130 Indians linked to a major online financial scam have been arrested in Sri Lanka. The Police said that 137 Indians were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
