Heat wave to continue in several areas

The heat advisory issued to several areas across the country has been extended till tomorrow (06), the Department of Meteorology said. The heat advisory covers the North-Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces and the Mannar and Monaragala Districts. The Department of Meteorology said the heat index, the temperature felt on the human body, is expected to increase up to ?Extreme Caution? level at some places in the above mentioned Provinces and Districts. Former SPC member and driver arrested over rape of Chinese woman

Former Southern Provincial Council member Krishantha Pushpakumara alias Raththaran and his driver were arrested today over the alleged rape of a Chinese woman. The suspects had been arrested on the advise of the Attorney General and were released on bail. Soldier sentenced to death over Mirusuvil massacre likely to be pardoned

A soldier sentenced to death in June 2015 for the murder of eight Tamil civilians in 2000 in Mirusuvil, is expected to be pardoned, at least two local newspapers reported today.
