UK envoy and Defence Secretary have bilateral talks

The British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, James Dauris met the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Kapila Waidyaratne for talks today. During the meeting a cordial discussion was held between the Secretary and the British High Commissioner on matters of bilateral importance and mutual relevance, the Defence Ministry said. Protests in the North over shooting, cop remembered

Protests were staged in the North today over the shooting incident targeting a prominent judge while events were also held in remembrance of the policeman killed in the incident. Judges, Magistrates and lawyers in the North including Vavuniya and Mannar staged protests over the attack on High Court Judge M. Illanchelian. Nursing officers told to transfer or lose jobs

Government Nursing officers who had been given notice to be transferred with effect from May 1st, have been warned that if they do not transfer by August 1st they may lose their jobs. Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne today instructed his officials to ensure the transfers are carried out effectively. The Health Ministry noted that despite the letters given in May some nurses have not yet been transferred.
