Namal and US envoy discuss issues affecting youth

The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa had talks on a wide range of matters including on issues affecting youth.

Chung posted on X saying the meeting was part of US outreach across the range of Sri Lankan parties.

“..met with @RajapaksaNamal in his new role as SLPP national organizer to hear about political engagement, including issues affecting youth, and exchange views on strengthening US-SL relations,” the US Ambassador said.

Meanwhile, Rajapaksa said he had a productive discussion with the US Ambassador focusing on political engagement and enhancing US-SL relations.

He said he looks forward to continued dialogue and collaboration. (Colombo Gazette)

Certain sections of Southern Expressway to be reopened

The Road Development Authority (RDA) has decided to reopen a certain section of the Southern Expressway from today, in line with the relaxing of the islandwide curfew in 18 Districts. The Authority closed all expressways as an islandwide curfew came into effect from 20 March to curb the spread of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka. Number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rises to 217

The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rose to 217 late this evening. The Health Promotion Bureau said that there are 154 active cases in Sri Lanka as of today (Monday) and seven deaths. As of today 56 patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospital. The Health Promotion Bureau said that there are 117 individuals suspected of contracting the coronavirus, who are receiving treatment in hospital. (Colombo Gazette)
