An investigation has been launched into a Japanese beer advertisement which uses Sigiriya as the backdrop. National Heritage Minister Jagath Balasuriya said that approval had initially been sought to film Sigiriya for an energy drink. Demo against death of suspect

A demonstration was staged outside the Dematagoda police station this evening against the death of a suspect in police custody. Relatives of the suspect demanded an explanation over his death after he was arrested last night for having drugs in his possession. Five arrested with jewelry, cigarettes

Five people were arrested when they attempted to smuggle unfinished jewelry and a large quantity of cigarettes via the Katunayaka airport today. Customs officers nabbed three women with unfinished jewelry including bangles when they were about to board a flight to Chennai.
