IGP summoned before Supreme Court

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has been summoned before the Supreme Court over a number of Fundamental Rights petitions filed by some policemen.

A group of Chief Inspectors filed the Fundamental Rights petitions against some Police transfers.

Tennakoon has been ordered to appear in court to respond to the petitions. (Colombo Gazette)

CEB strike expands, Ministry makes appeal to prevent crisis

The strike by trade unions attached to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) expanded today with more trade unions extending support to the strike. Meanwhile, the Power and Energy Ministry appealed to all CEB employees to return to work and prevent a power crisis. The Ministry also announced that employees who did not report to work on September 13 and 14 will be granted paid leave. (Colombo Gazette)
