Sri Lanka to reach ECTA deal with India and FTA with China

Sri Lanka is to sign an Economic and Technology Co-operation Agreement (ETCA) with India and a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China, President Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament today.

The Economic and Technology Co-operation Agreement is a proposed diplomatic arrangement that seeks to add to the existing free trade agreement between India and Sri Lanka, primarily in relation to trade-in services and the service sector.

The President also said that Sri Lanka will resume construction of the Central Expressway with the support of China and Japan after the debt restructuring process in completed. (Colombo Gazette)

Lankans sent back totals 700

Almost 600 asylum seekers have now been returned to Sri Lanka against their will, Immigration Minister Chris Bowen says. Mother and child killed in Kulliyapitiya fire

A mother and her child were killed following a fire at a house in Killiyapitiya this morning, the police media unit said. The police said that the two victims were asleep in the house when it was on fire ?and they were?burned?to death. The police identified the victims as a 37 year old woman and an 8 year old girl.
