Ranil confirms Presidential polls next year

President Ranil Wickremesinghe confirmed that the Presidential elections will be held next year, as per the Constitution.

Speaking at a special convention organised by the United National Party (UNP), Wickremesinghe said that Parliament elections will also be held in 2024.

He said that local council elections will be held in the year 2025.

The President also thanked Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and the Cabinet for helping him resolve the issues in the country.

He said it was time to put party politics aside when dealing with national issues.

The President said that people talk about the need for change but he says that change must begin with us.

Wickremesinghe called on other political parties to support him to address the issues faced by the country. (Colombo Gazette)

Shiranthi will go to the FCID tomorrow

GTF ready for direct talks on Tamil issues

The Global Tamil Forum (GTF), an influential diaspora group based in London, says it is ready for direct talks with anyone to resolve Tamil issues.
