Prophet Jerome to be arrested despite apology

Self-proclaimed Prophet, Jerome Fernando is to be arrested on his return to Sri Lanka despite his public apology.

Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles, told reporters today that there are a number of complaints received against Jerome Fernando.

He said that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating Jerome Fernando.

The Minister said that saying “sorry” will not mean the investigations will be suspended.

He also noted that the court has issued a travel ban on Jerome Fernando.

The Minister said that the normal procedure is that when such a person returns from overseas he is handed over to the CID and the CID will decide if to detain the suspect or release him.

Fernando had apologized yesterday if he had hurt any Buddhists, Hindus or Muslims through his preaching.

However, he said he will not apologize for saying anything that is in the Bible. (Colombo Gazette)

Cabinet has approved a resolution to draft a Bill to counter fake news spread online, Cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said today.
