UNP suspends 1,137 local council members

The United National Party (UNP) has decided to suspend 1,137 local council members.

The UNP members had contested past local council polls under the UNP ticket but later supported other political parties.

As a result, the UNP Working Committee unanimously decided to suspend 1,137 local council members. (Colombo Gazette)

Over 2 kilograms of heroin found in Valvettithurai

The police have recovered over 2?kilograms of heroin in?Valvettithurai in Jaffna, the police media unit said. The heroin was found hidden in a forest area following information received by the police. Investigations are underway.
