Sri Lanka plays down claims LTTE chief is alive

Sri Lanka today played down claims made by Tamil Nadu politician Pazha Nedumaaran that LTTE chief V. Prabhakaran was alive.

Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said that Nedumaaran was exercising his right to freedom of speech to make such claims.

He also said that the National Security Council headed by the President and Prime Minister meets regularly and if there is a threat to the country then the public will be informed by the relevant officials.

Meanwhile, The Hindu newspaper reported that Naam Tamilar Katchi chief co-ordinator Seeman tried to side-step the startling claim made by former Congress leader and Tamil Nationalist leader, Pazha Nedumaaran, that Prabhakaran, who is believed to have been killed in the final stages of the war in 2009, was indeed alive and well.

Speaking to the reporters in Erode while campaigning for the bypoll in Erode (East) Assembly constituency, Seeman said that he too got a call from London on ?Maveerar Day?, which is observed on November 27 each year to remember the sacrifices of fighters of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, to announce that LTTE chief Prabhakaran was indeed alive. Doctors stage token strike over SAITM and proposed ETCA

Government doctors staged a token strike today over the SAITM private medical college and the proposed Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ECTA) with India. The doctors staged the strike from 8am to 12 noon today. The?Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has opposed ECTA. The GMOA has also raised some concerns over SAITM.
