Over 48,000 criminals arrested

Over 48,000 criminals who had warrants against their name were arrested between the beginning of July and the 26th of this month, the police media unit said today. The police said that 48,977 wanted persons were arrested during that period with most arrests being from the Western Province. All those who were arrested were produced in court and remanded while a few were released on bail, the police statement said. Search in India for Lankan boat

The Indian coastal security agencies launched immediate search operations on Thursday following an Intelligence report that a Sri Lankan fishing vessel was anchored in sea off the Kochi coast.
