Picnics, pilgrimages and leisure tours suspended

The Government today decided to suspend all picnics, pilgrimages and leisure tours islandwide until further notice. It said the suspension comes with immediate effect, as part of measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the Road Development Authority announced that all expressways will be closed for operation from today. The Authority said all expressways will halt operations from 04.00 PM today. The measures are being taken in view of the islandwide curfew

Dambulla Mayor arrested

The Mayor of Dambulla has been arrested on charges of organizing a bicycle race in the area. DIG Ajith Rohana told Colombo Gazette the suspect was arrested along with another person today. The Government last week banned mass gatherings as part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country. DIG Ajith Rohana added that the suspects will be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate today. (Colombo Gazette)

Train services cancelled owing to all island curfew

The Department of Railways has decided to suspend all train services from today till Monday (23). The Railway Control Room said train services will be suspended from 3.30 PM today to 06.00 AM on Monday (23). It said this comes in view of the islandwide police curfew to be implemented from 06.00 PM today till 06.00 AM on Monday (23). The curfew is being imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
