SLMC and TNA discuss 13A

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) have had talks on the 13th Amendment to the constitution, an SLMC spokesman said. Supporters of Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva broke coconuts at the Muneshwaram Temple in Chilaw today and cursed The Sunday Leader newspaper. Police arrest asylum seekers

The police arrested 23 asylum seekers at Kalawanchikudi while they were preparing to go to a foreign destination by boat this morning. According to the police media unit the asylum seekers were arrested along the shores of Chetipalayalam. Among those arrested are 14 Tamils and 9 Sinhalese nationals. All are residents of Kalawanchikudi and Vavuniya. The police said they suspect that the asylum seekers were preparing to head to Australia. Investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)
