Shani Abeysekera to get Police protection

Former Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Shani Abeysekera, is to be given Police protection.

The decision was communicated to the Court of Appeal by the Attorney General’s Department.

In a writ petition, Shani Abeysekara had sought an order directing the Police to provide security to him and his family as they are facing threats/

The National Authority for the Protection of Victims of Crimes and Witnesses had recommended that Abeysekara be given Police protection.

Accordingly, the Attorney General’s Department informed court today that Abeysekara will be given Police protection.

Shani Abeysekara handled some high-profile cases when he was the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department.

In February this year Abeysekera filed a petition seeking a Court order against attempts by the then Gotabaya Rajapakasa administration to arrest him.

The FR?petition?alleged there was interference in the investigations conducted by the CID on Zahran Hashim, prior to the Easter Sunday attacks.

The petitioner alleged that intelligence agencies diverted investigations into the suspects who were later linked to the Easter Sunday attacks.?(Colombo Gazette)

Three members of notorious ?Aava? group arrested

Three members of the notorious ?Aava? group were arrested in Jaffna with two swords. The three suspects had reportedly been involved in an attack on two people recently. They had attached the two people using swords resulting in both of the suffering injuries. (Colombo Gazette)
