Several areas flooded following heavy rain

Several areas are experiencing minor flooding following heavy overnight rain.

The entrance and exit roads to and from the Southern Expressway at the Welipenna interchange is among the areas flooded.

The Police said that small vehicles were unable to use the interchange earlier today.

Meanwhile, a two-storied house was buried in a landslide in Thumbaliyadda, Warakapola today.

Four people were inside the house at the time and one person, a 50-year-old man, was rescued and admitted to hospital.

A search operation was launched to locate the remaining people. (Colombo Gazette)

UNP forced to postpone signing deal for new alliance

The United National Party (UNP) has been forced to postpone an event which was scheduled to be held tomorrow where an agreement was to be signed between the UNP and its alliance members. The UNP was to launch its new alliance tomorrow and sign the agreement with the alliance members. However, some parties including the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the Tamil Progressive Alliance have refused to sign the agreement until some conditions are met.

New Governors appointed for South, Central and Uva Provinces

President Maithripala Sirisena appointed three new Governors for the South, Central and Uva Provinces. The new Governors took oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena today.
