Sri Lanka confirms it asked China to defer visit by ship

Sri Lanka today confirmed it has asked China to defer the visit by the Chinese vessel Yuang Wang 5 to the Hambantota Port.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that diplomatic clearance for the Chinese vessel to make a port call at the Hambantota port?from?11-17 August,?2022 for replenishment purposes was conveyed by the Ministry to the Embassy of the People?s Republic of China in Colombo on 12 July,?2022.

However, Ministry of Foreign Affairs? said that in light of the need for further consultations, the Ministry has communicated to the Embassy of the People?s Republic of China in Colombo to defer the visit of the said vessel to the Hambantota port.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the enduring friendship and excellent relations between Sri Lanka and China which remain on a solid foundation, as reiterated most recently by the two Foreign Ministers Ali Sabry and Wang Yi at a bilateral meeting in Phonm Penh, Cambodia on 4 August,?2022.

At this first meeting between the two Foreign Ministers, Minister Sabry referred to Sri Lanka?s firm commitment to the one-China policy which has been a consistent principle in the country?s foreign policy. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka makes payment for diesel on ship

Sri Lanka has made a payment to purchase diesel on a ship berthed outside the Colombo Port. The Ministry of Energy said that USD 35.3 million was paid for 37,500 metric tonnes of diesel. No request by CEB for 7-hour power cut

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has not made a request for a 7-hour power cut, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said. There have been reports that the CEB has requested for a 7-hour power cut. However, the PUCSL told Colombo Gazette that there has not been such a request. State Minister Nimal Lanza warns his colleagues

State Minister Nimal Lanza today warned his colleagues in the Government saying he is prepared to respond if they continue to attack him. Lanza told Parliament that some Ministers and MPs have been attacking him over the past few weeks. The State Minister also said that he has written to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa raising some concerns. He said that the concerns were with regards to some issues in his Ministry.
