A leading monk has condemned moves to allow a Chinese “spy ship” to dock in Sri Lanka.

The Most Ven Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Mahanayake Thera of the Amarapura Sri Sambuddha Shasanodaya Maha Sangha Sabha said that allowing the ship to dock at the Hambantota Port is detrimental to Sri Lanka’s national and strategic interests.

He also said that the arrival of the ship at this time is “unwarranted and unacceptable”.

The monk also noted the irony over claims that the ship is arriving in Sri Lanka to refuel when Sri Lanka is unable to supply fuel for its own people. (Colombo Gazette)
