Leading businessmen, journalists linked to protests

Leading businessmen and some journalists have been linked to the protests staged against the Government, a Government Minister said today.

Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said that legal action will be taken against those involved in damaging State property during the recent protests.

However, he asserted that there is no move to crackdown on peaceful protesters.

He said that action will only be taken against those who attempted to create instability and damaged property.

The Minister also said that some journalists were involved with the protesters and that must be investigated.

Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that violence had been launched against public representatives resulting in the death of one MP.

He also noted that property belonging to MPs had been destroyed by protesters.

The Minister said that investigations are ongoing into those incidents. (Colombo Gazette)

Cancer sees alarming increase

The number of patients affected by various types of cancer in Sri Lanka has alarmingly increased since 2009, the government information department?quoted?the Ministry of Health as saying.
