SLPP group led by Dullas and G.L threaten to sit with opposition

A group of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs, including former Ministers Dullas Alahapperuma and Professor G.L Pieris, have threatened to sit with the Opposition in Parliament, if the need arises.
Eleven SLPP MPs held a joint media conference today and objected to some of the recent decisions taken by the SLPP.
The MPs, including Dilan Perera, Nalaka Godahewa and Channa Jayasumana, raised strong objections to the extension of the State of Emergency.
The MPs had voted against the extension of the State of Emergency in Parliament yesterday.
Alahapperuma said that over 30 SLPP MPs had not been in Parliament when the vote was taken.
He said that his group has the support of most if not all of those MPs who did not attend the Parliament vote yesterday.
Professor G.L Pieris, who is the Chairman of the SLPP, said that he has not stepped down from the post.
According to reports the MPs are expected to sit as independent MPs in Parliament.
Alahapperuma said that it is too early to say what stand the MPs will take in Parliament but he added that they are prepared to sit with the opposition if required.?(Colombo Gazette)
