Seylan Bank, the Bank with a Heart, encouraged its employees to join the home cultivation drive to help them face the challenge of increasing food prices by growing essential vegetables and fruit plants at home. As such, the Seylan Staff Welfare Association partnered with the Department of Agriculture on a project to share knowledge and educate the staff of the bank.
The project is aptly named as “Suhada Hadin Apith Wawamu”, to grow with a good heart, and aims at encouraging the staff to take on home cultivation and thus, empower them during the current crisis situation in the country. The selected plant seeds are recommended by the Department of Agriculture for cultivation in limited spaces, such as apartments and housing complexes, and to give short term yield to support the daily vegetable consumption of a household.
“While we provide simplified solutions for our customers at Seylan Bank, as a responsible entity, we also focus on how we can enrich the lives of our team members. Especially during trying times like now, we need to ensure that we carry out initiatives that will add value to everyone’s lives. We are grateful to the Department of Agriculture, for their guidance in purchasing the relevant seeds that were distributed among our staff, and we would like to thank them for their invaluable support. We began this drive at the Seylan Head Office and we hope to expand it across all our branches and empower our staff throughout different levels in the organization,” stated Jayantha Amerasinghe, Deputy General Manager – HR, and also the President of the Welfare Association of Seylan Bank.
