Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has reversed his decision to name United National Front leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the leader of the opposition after 57 Parliamentarians requested that United National Front Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa be appointed as the leader of the opposition. Chamal Rajapaksa appointed State Minister of Defence

Former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa was appointed as the State Minister of Defence today. He took oaths before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat. He was among several State Ministers and Deputy Ministers appointed today. Chamal Rajapaksa is the third of the Rajapaksa family to receive a top post in the new Government.
