Singapore says Gotabaya has not sought asylum

Singapore says President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not sought asylum and is in the country on a private visit.
In response to media queries, the Singapore Foreign Ministry confirmed that Rajapaksa has been allowed entry into Singapore on a private visit.
“He has not asked for asylum and neither has he been granted any asylum. Singapore generally does not grant requests for asylum,” the Singapore Foreign Ministry said.
Rajapaksa flew into Singapore from the Maldives after fleeing Sri Lanka amid a deepening crisis and widespread protests.
He arrived on board a Saudia flight which touched down at Changi Airport at 7.17pm Singapore Time.
In a statement, the Singapore police said Rajapaksa is on a social visit pass.
The Police urged the public, Singaporeans, residents, work pass holders and social visitors alike to abide by local local laws.
The Singapore Police also warned that action will be taken against anyone participating in a public assembly that is illegal. (Colombo Gazette)
