Man deported from Oman arrested at BIA by CID

A Tamil youth has been?arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after being deported from Oman, the police media unit said today. The police said that the 25 year old youth is a resident of Kilinochchi and was arrested yesterday after he arrived at the Katunayake airport on being deported from Oman. The youth was?detained in Oman while attempting to travel to Italy on a forged visa. He is to be produced before the Negombo Magistr

Court issues arrest warrant on Gnanasara Thera

The Homagama Magistrate issued an arrest warrant today on the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, the venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera. The arrest warrant was issued after the monk had allegedly disrespected court during proceedings into the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda. Later outside court the monk had slammed the Government for arresting soldiers in relation to the case. (Colombo Gazette)

TPC submits proposals on political solution to Wigneswaran

The Tamil People’s Council (TPC) has submitted a set of proposals on a political solution to Northern Province Chief Minister and TPC chairman C V Wigneswaran. According to reports, the proposals were handed over today and Wigneswaran is expected to make it public on Saturday. The proposals were compiled after a TPC committee met for several weeks and discussed a solution for the National issue and also obtained submissions from others. Proposals are also to be sought from the Tamil diaspora
