LIOC suspends fuel distribution for 2 days

Lanka Indian Oil (LIOC) has decided to suspend the distribution of fuel to LIOC sheds today and tomorrow.

The company said the decision was taken owing to the protests taking place over the next two days.

LIOC Managing Director Manoj Gupta said that in view of the planned protests the company has been advised to discontinue supply operations to sheds with immediate effect.

However he said LIOC will continue distributing supplies from Trincomalee to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and its valued industries.

Gupta said that they hope to resume supplies to the fuel sheds from Sunday.

Several protests began in and around Colombo today.

The protests were being staged to coincide with a mass protest set to take place in Colombo tomorrow (Saturday).

Fever kills at least nine people in Mullaitivu District

A fever has killed at least?nine people in the Mullaitivu District over the past 20 days, reports from the area stated. Investigations have commenced to identify the fever which has resulted in the deaths. Reports said that all nine people had died while receiving treatment in hospital for the fever.
