Central Bank confident on Sri Lanka deal with IMF

The Central Bank is confident of Sri Lanka reaching a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe told reporters today that talks with the IMF are continuing virtually.

He said that most of the expectations of the IMF are being met and he was confident that a staff level agreement will be reached.

The IMF had noted progress in Sri Lanka?s economic reforms program following a recent visit to Colombo by an IMF team.

An IMF mission team led by Messrs. Peter Breuer and Masahiro Nozaki visited Colombo from June 20 to 30, 2022 to discuss IMF support for Sri Lanka and the authorities? comprehensive economic reform program.

Ms. Anne-Marie Gulde-Wolf, Deputy Director of the IMF?s Asia and Pacific Department, participated in policy discussions.

The IMF team held meetings with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Secretary to the Treasury K M Mahinda Siriwardana, and other senior government and CBSL officials.

It also met with Parliamentarians, representatives from the private sector, civil society organizations, and development partners. (Colombo Gazette)

Police probe attack on Borella mosque

The police are investigating an attack on a mosque in Borella last night. Stones had been thrown towards the mosque damaging glass and other property of the building.
