Wearing face masks indoors and outdoors not mandatory

Wearing face masks indoors and outdoors will not be mandatory with effect from 10th June, the Ministry of Health said.

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that effective immediately the requirement to wear a mask is no longer mandatory for indoor and outdoor spaces in Sri Lanka.

However, he said that those suffering from respiratory conditions are encouraged to wear masks and be socially responsible.

“This was a collective decision by all medical colleges and the Ministry of Health,” he said.

Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardane said that COVID-19 PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) will also not be carried out as a screening test. (Colombo Gazette)
