President wants Sri Lankans to learn Japanese

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa wants Sri Lankans to learn Japanese to fill job vacancies in Japan.

There are more than 350,000 job vacancies in the elderly-care and catering industry in Japan, the President’s Office said.

Knowledge of the Japanese language is mandatory in this regard.

As a result, the President said that Japanese language programmes should be implemented immediately with the participation of the private and public sectors, including the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, the Vocational Training Authority and the Foreign Employment Bureau.

The President made these remarks at a discussion held at the President’s House, Colombo, this morning (25) to review the progress of the programme to direct skilled workers to foreign employment markets.

The President pointed out that in the face of the current economic setback, special attention should be drawn to generate foreign exchange and seize foreign employment opportunities. (Colombo Gazette)

Probe sought on Piumi Hansamali’s assets

An investigation has been sought on the assets of actress Piumi Hansamali, including a Range Rover used by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. A complaint was lodged by activist Sanjaya Mahawatta with the Illegal Assets Investigations Division to investigate Hansamali’s financial gains. SLFP warring parties meet at Sirimavo’s birth anniversary event

The two sides at war in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) had a rare face to face meeting at an event held to mark the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike. Former President Maithripala Sirisena and newly appointed SLFP Vice President Nimal Siripala de Silva were among those who attended the event.
