Troops assist students affected by floods in Puttalam

The Army was deployed to assist over 150 GCE O/L candidates who were affected by the floods in Puttalam today.

The Army media unit said that the 143 Brigade troops and 58 Division troops evacuated 156 GCE O/L candidates from ground floor class rooms at St Andrew?s Central College in the heart of Puttalam.

Army troops removed all the desks and chairs from the ground floor of the three-storied building and helped move the candidates to the upper floor using three Army buses as the flood water levels had risen to about two feet in the inundated school compound.

Meanwhile, troops of the 16 Sri Lanka National Guards (SLNG) under the command of the 241 Brigade of the 24 Division of the Security Force HQ – East (SFHQ-E) cleared the road patch between Kalmunai and Uhana, Malwatte affected by torrential rains and thunderstorms. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka gets 40 year repayment period for tunnel

Sri Lanka has received a?40 year repayment period including 10 year grace period for the funds to be obtained from?Korea to build a tunnel in Kandy. Anura Senanayake released after being granted bail

Former Deputy Inspector General of?Police Anura Senanayake who was granted bail last week in the Wasim Thajudeen murder case, was freed today after meeting his bail conditions. He was granted bail by the Colombo High Court last week. Senanayake was arrested in May last year in connection to the case.
