No more private buses for political parties after Galle Face incident

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) has decided not to give private buses to political parties after the Galle Face incident.
Forty-five private buses had been completely destroyed by violent mobs after the Galle Face incident on Monday.
The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association said that around 45 buses have been condemned and are beyond repair.
The LPBOA also said that the buses are not fully insured and so the full cost cannot be recovered.
Private bus owners have sought assistance from the Government to cover the losses incurred as a result of the destruction of several buses during the mob violence.
A mob led by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) had reached Colombo in several private buses to show support to former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The mob had later gone on a rampage, attacking peaceful demonstrators near Temple Trees and at Galle Face.
Angry supporters of those demonstrating at Galle Face had then taken to the streets and set fire to buses used by the SLPP mob. (Colombo Gazette)
