Catholic Church refuses to accept Ranil as Prime Minister

The Catholic Church has refused to accept United National Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister.

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith told reporters today that appointing someone rejected by the people as Prime Minister is not acceptable.

He also said that Wickremesinghe is the sole member of his party in Parliament.

“We will not accept the Prime Minister or a Government of Wickremesinghe,” he said.
