India not sending troops to Sri Lanka

India is not sending troops to Sri Lanka, the Indian High Commission in Colombo said.

Senior member of India’s ruling BJP, Subramanian Swamy had said that?India must send in the Indian Army to restore Constitutional sanity.

“At present anti Indian foreign forces are taking advantage of people?s anger. This affects India?s national security,” he had said.

However, the Indian High Commission categorically denied speculative reports in sections of media and social media about India sending troops to Sri Lanka.

The High Commission said that these reports and such views are also not in keeping with the position of the Government of India.

The High Commission recalled the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India as saying earlier that India is fully supportive of Sri Lanka’s democracy, stability and economic recovery. (Colombo Gazette)
